. . . GETTING TO KNOW YOU . . .

KRISTEN TEUSCHER- THE RIGHT HAND LADY

1. What would you do if you found a penguin in the freezer?  If it’s a real penguin I would close the door and wonder why there’s a penguin in the freezer, especially if I wasn’t the one who put it there. Then probably Google “penguin in freezer”. If it’s a chocolate penguin I would eat it of course.

2. If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be, and why? A maple tree because I'm sweet! ;)

3. How did you start dancing? My younger brother was part of the Irvington High School social dance group, lead by Julie Myers. They went to Grand Nationals in Atlanta, and to Swing Diego, and brought home DVDs. I watched them and was instantly hooked. I started going with the high school kids to Two Left Feet, and pretty much never stopped dancing. That was about 13 years ago.

4. How would you sell hot cocoa in Florida?  I would sell hot cocoa iced with Baileys.

5. How many basketballs would fit in the room you're in?  I’m at work in my office, so maybe 30?

6. You’re a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why? Unicorn poop. Because why not??

7. What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?  My best friend came over one day and took a video of me trying to find, and kill, a spider. She claims it’s a 20 minute video that she had to edit down to post on Facebook. Yes, it’s still posted if you know where to look.

8. Why did you join The Next Gen Board? And of what actions are you most proud?  I joined Next Gen as a way to get to know more people in the community. Being a shy person in a social dance community is difficult, so I figured it would be a way for me to learn about people on the Board and force them to get to know me at the same time.

I am most proud of the progress we have made in the past year. We created and implemented a very successful scholarship program, we completely changed venues (from which we have gotten some really wonderful feedback), and we have been trying to stay up with the times regarding digital memberships and all of our social media and website marketing.

9. What other dances do you enjoy, and why?  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE fusion dancing. Especially micro fusion. I love how it challenges my following skills, and forces me to relax and feel the music, and the connection I have with my partner. It also helps me to have fun and embrace musicality, because I don’t feel like I have to be perfect since there is so much self expression.

10. What is your favorite thing about where you live?  I love that I’m just outside downtown Sacramento. I’m close enough to everything I need. The people are very active, which has gotten me motivated to do more things like hiking, running, and kayaking. I can do any one of those within 30 minutes from where I live. It’s the city of trees so it’s actually really beautiful here.

11. If you could throw a parade of any caliber through your office, what type of parade would it be?  If it’s going through my office, it would probably be some sort of 5k or marathon run where people are running with proper running form. Seems appropriate in a sports chiropractic office where 90% of our patients are runners.

12. What would you do if you were the one survivor in a plane crash?  Probably cry. Then try to find food.

13. If you woke up and had 2,000 unread emails, and could only answer 300 of them, how would you choose which ones to answer?  I would answer emails from my patients, students, and Next Gen. That’s pretty much all I need to respond to anyways.

14. If you could have a machine that produced $100 dollars for life, how much would you be willing to pay for it?  That depends on how much it costs for ink and paper. Wait, isn’t that illegal? I’ll "plead the 5th".

15. Coffee or Tea? And why?  Oolong tea from Teance in Berkeley!!! They have the best teas and the cutest little tea shop.  Coffee upsets my stomach.

16. If you could only choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what would it be?  Jingle Bells. It would annoy everyone.

17. If you could move to any one state, which would it be and why?  I would stay in California. Unless there’s a miracle state where the temperature doesn’t go below 80 degrees. I hate being cold.

18.  What is your favorite thing about West Coast Swing?  Everything. I love the music, the people, the conventions, you can add your own styling, you can do it anywhere, and it just looks cool. Duh.

19. You’re in a room with three light switches, each of which controls one of three light bulbs in the next room. You need to determine which switch controls which bulb. All lights are off to begin, and you can’t see into one room from the other. You can inspect the other room only once. How can you find out which switches are connected to which bulbs?  I would FaceTime my phone with my iPad. Put my iPad in the other room then watch the lights come on as I flip the switches. Or have someone stand in the other room and tell me.

20. How would people communicate in a perfect world?  In a perfect world, people would communicate honestly and without judgement. You never know what someone else is going through, so you can’t judge or criticize their thoughts or actions.
